Power Shower (pro_s and cons)

A power shower is really just a mixer shower with a built in pump fitted. They seem to not be so popular recently, presumably because they are rather bulky in appearance. Neasden Plumbers can fit showers.

There are some advantages of a power shower which are:

1). The water is pumped, so you will get a very powerful shower.
2). Because the pump is built-in there is only one thing to buy, so they can work out why cheaper than a pumped mixer shower.
3). The power of this pump is quite often adjustable, so you are able to save water when you need to, but then again blast yourself with a shower (across the bathroom) when you feel like it.
4). These power showers are not affected by anyone operating any other water in the house at the same time which is quite an advantage.

There are some disadvantages of a power shower:

1). Unfortunately they tend to use much more water than an average shower.
2). The water supply for the power shower is taken from the stored source, so it is quite possible that you may run out of water if you're not careful.
3). They require a positive head, for example the water storage tank needs to be cited above the height of the shower head, which sometimes is not possible.
4). You will also need the services of a qualified electrician, as they need to be wired in.
5). They are often quite ugly looking large plastic boxes which look as though you have stuck them to the bathroom wall.

Fitting tips:

a). If you have a combi-boiler or an unvented hot water cylinder you can fit a power shower, they must take their water from a stored, or gravity fed supply. A Neasden Plumber knows the regulations.
b). The pipework is the same as for a gravity fed mixer shower.
c). You will need a part-P qualified electrician to make any electrical connections.
